What we check first on a Honda
- Valve clearances. Honda’s intervals are long, which is exactly why they get forgotten. On a bike past 25,000 km with no record of the check, this is the first thing we look at.
- Charging circuit. Regulator-rectifier and stator health is a standard check on older CB and CBR models — a weak charging system is often blamed on the battery.
- Chain and sprockets. Cheap to replace as a kit, expensive when a stretched chain takes the sprockets and the countershaft seal with it.
- Carburettors on pre-injection models. Cleaning and synchronisation restores the idle and the fuel figure on bikes that sat over a winter.
